As a student, there a very large number of resources you can access for either free, or a vastly reduced price. Additionally, if you are a student member of ACM international, you gain access to some additional great resources.
Resources for All Students
- Without a doubt, the single best resource for computer science an computer engineering students is the GitHub Student Developer Pack. All you need to access all of it’s resources is your student email address and a GitHub account. A few of the highlights are:
- Free GitHub Premium, allowing you to create private repos
- 1 year of a free domain name and SSL certificate
- Free AWS and Azure cloud credit and training
- Access to the suite of Jetbrains’ Professional IDE’s
- Two years of free Heroku
- Discounts on Arduino and Adafruit purchases
- 3 free months of the Pro plan for Repl.it, an awesome tool for collaboration when coding
- 6 months of free Dashlane Premium
- You probably know that you get free access to Microsoft’s Office 365 suite as a student at CSU. But did you know that you also get a free Windows 10 key and a free Windows Server key? Head over here to pick up the key!
- Notion offers a 100% free student plan as long as you sign up using your CSU email. This gives you access to the Personal Pro plan (normally $4/month), which provides you with unlimited notetaking, unlimited file uploads, and unlimited organization for all of your projects, notes, and classwork.
Resources for Members of ACM International
- Access to the ACM online Learning Center, which includes access to the entire O’Reilly library of books, which are often regarded as some of the best books to learn programming from. Also included is access to hundreds of hours of online videos for IT and technical certifications.
- The ability to subscribe to the ACM Digital Library, containing thousands of papers and books on various computing topics.
- A 12 month subscription to the digital edition of the ACM Magazine, The Communications of ACM
- Discounts on ACM journals and books
- A free, spam filter protected, @acm.org email forwarding address
The cost of an annual ACM membership is fairly inexpensive, at $19 for a one year membership. Access to the ACM Learning Center alone makes the subscription worthwhile to many.
